Gastroenterology Procedures We Perform
Procedures performed in the office that relate to gastroenterology are:
- Paracentesis - removal of fluid from inside the abdominal cavity
- Removal of a thrombosis (blood clot) in a hemorrhoid
- Video Capsule Endoscopy- examination of the gastrointestinal tract for patients who are experiencing problems with their esophagus, stomach, small intestine or large intestine. Video capsule endoscopy involves swallowing a large pill containing a special camera. This camera takes pictures of thegastrointestinal system as it passes through the entire gastrointestinal tract. This test is primarily performed when the traditional scopes passed through your mouth and rectum fail to identify the cause of your problems or cannot reach the small intestine..
Most of the procedures performed by our gastroenterologists are done at the Dubuque Endoscopy Center. On rare occasions, you may need to have your gastrointestinal procedure done at one of the area hospitals - Finley Hospital or Mercy Hospital.
